Mom Turns 30

Today the kids and I (Jenny) went to the zoo for my birthday with friend Stephanie and her children. It was fun to see our friends for the day. I would have taken pictures, but I forgot my camera. Even if I had remembered, I doubt if we could have gotten our gang which included a 1 year-old, 2 year-old, 3 year-old, 4 year-old, and 6 year-old together long enough to take a group shot, and a picture of me as I frantically searched for Seth when I momentarily lost him in the crowd really wouldn't be pretty :-)

This evening we had cake, and I opened my gifts. The kids bought me candles for the new house.... which brings me to the following... a picture of our house. It is supposed to be finished by mid-July. We're getting close!
Tomorrow Grandma and Grandpa were planning to keep the children while Mom and Dad had an afternoon out. However, Morgan developed a fairly high fever this afternoon, and unless she has an overnight recovery, we'll be home instead.

Pool Day

I'm not sure which the kids enjoyed more... the afternoon at the local pool or the cherry slushes afterward...

Mama's Girl

Morgan's new kitchen has a fancy refrigerator, stove, oven, toaster, food, etc., but her favorite part by far is the phone...

The Joys of Potty Training

I thought it was odd when Seth told me after his nap that he decided to change his shorts... I should have thought to question him a little more. Look what I found in my bathroom later..

Is anything cuter...

than size 3 pink (generic) Crocs???? Mom intended to buy Seth Crocs at Walmart this morning, but she couldn't resist getting Morgan a pair also when she saw the little pink ones....

Lydia's Strawberry Jam

Lydia made strawberry jam this afternoon. She's made it in years when we didn't have a new baby during strawberry season.

Morgan's Cabinet

Mom has heard that if you give a baby a kitchen cabinet with a few toys, the baby will play happily while you do things in the kitchen. This is Morgan's cabinet. It's worked fairly well except she insists on being inside the cabinet.

1 and 3

Updated June 19: Morgan and Seth went for their 1 and 3 year old check ups. Morgan was 29.25 inches and 17 pounds 16 ounces. This puts her in the 25-50th percentile for height and the 2nd percentile for weight. Seth was 41 inches and 46 pounds which puts him completely off the other end of the growth charts for both height and weight.

This was a big birthday week for us. Seth turned three earlier in the week, and Morgan turned one today. They were lucky enough to have 2 parties since we were going on vacation. They had a party in Ohio before we left. They then had another party while we were on our Gatlinburg trip. Morgan is walking well now that she's one. Seth enjoyed having a baseball cake in Ohio and an alligator cake in Tennessee. Morgan had pink flower cakes both places. The kids had great birthdays.

Great Smokey Mountain National Park

We spent one day on vacation at the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. The kids enjoyed playing in a creek, having a picnic lunch, and taking a nature hike.

Ripley's Aquarium

We went to the Ripley's Aquarium while on vacation. The kids enjoyed watching a show with Grandpa, and Seth got to be part of the fish tanks.

Grandpa's Graduation

Grandpa graduated from Ashland Theological Seminary on June 7. He received his Master's in Christian Education after years of hard work. Dad, Mom, and Lydia went to the graduation ceremony along with Grandma, Uncle Bryan, and Sasha.

An Amish Wedding Table

This evening Jenny, Lydia, and Morgan went to see the wedding preparations of Lydia's old babysitter and family friend Laura. Laura is almost twenty-one and has taught the lower grades at the local 2-room school for about the past 3 years. She is the second oldest of 10 children. Since Laura is Amish, we did not take pictures of her. She will wear a black dress with a white cape for her wedding tomorrow.
This is the main table for the meal they will have after the wedding service. She will be married at 9 am, her family will have a homecooked meal for 500+ at 12 pm, and the family will host the local teenagers for the evening. They had about 30 women at their house this morning preparing 64 pies plus lots of other food for the main meal. They added walls and a kitchen in their barn to host the event. We enjoyed seeing all the preparations and hearing the plans for tomorrow. Lydia loved playing with her old friends from when she used to play at their house.

Lydia Learning to Skate

Lydia is learning to rollarblade. It's going well for the first day.

1 AM Tornado Warning

A tornado hit about 8 miles from where we live Friday night. We were under a tornado warning, and we all got in the kids' closet with all the pillows in the house. If you look closely you can see Lydia sleeping in the back left, Seth sleeping standing up on a chair (He was sick,) Morgan enjoying a cup of gatorade (She was also sick,) and an exhausted Mom. Dad was with us in the closet, but he took the picture.
